Yesterday, I wrote about my most anticipated horror releases for the remainder of the year. However, I do actually watch films that aren’t horror as well, and I thought it would be fun to share some films I’m really looking forward to outside of my beloved horror genre. So, without further delay, here are my most anticipated non-horror 2025 releases.
- Eddington– In May of 2020, a standoff between a small-town sheriff and mayor sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico. Despite not loving Beau is Afraid and not wanting to see COVID films while things are still so ongoing, I am interested in this film. The cast is full of actors and actresses whose work I really enjoy. I also think that Ari Aster is a very talented filmmaker, and seeing his output evolve is fascinating. Release Date: July 18th, 2025
- The Roses– Life seems easy for picture-perfect couple Ivy and Theo: successful careers, a loving marriage, great kids. But beneath the façade of their supposed ideal life, a storm is brewing – as Theo’s career nosedives while Ivy’s own ambitions take off, a tinderbox of fierce competition and hidden resentment ignites. I am already a HUGE Searchlight Pictures fan, but add in films with food and I’m over the moon. This remake looks like it will be a lot of fun, and I can’t wait to see what the cast does with the script. Release Date: August 29th, 2025
- TRON: Ares– A highly sophisticated Program called Ares is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with AI beings. I’m a devout TRONaholic. So much so that every year for New Year’s Eve, my husband and I do what we refer to as TRONdue. We make fondue and watch both TRON films. In fact, this is probably my most highly anticipated film of the year, superceding any genre. Release Date: October 10th, 2025
- The Housemaid– Millie is a struggling woman who is relieved to get a fresh start as a housemaid to Nina and Andrew, an upscale, wealthy couple. She soon learns that the family’s secrets are far more dangerous than her own. I have heard the book is a fun read, so this one sounds like it’s going to be a good time. Also, Paul Feig does great work when it comes to thrillers! Sadly, it does not appear that there is a trailer yet. Release Date: December 25th, 2025
- Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery– Benoit Blanc returns for his most dangerous case yet. I am obsessed with murder mysteries these days, and I am really excited for more Benoit Blanc. The last two films have been solid mysteries, so it will be interesting to see what Rian Johnson does with this one. Release Date: December 12th, 2025
- Kiss of the Spider Woman– Valentín, a political prisoner, shares a cell with Molina, a window dresser convicted of public indecency. The two form an unlikely bond as Molina recounts the plot of a Hollywood musical starring his favorite silver screen diva, Ingrid Luna. I saw the stage show of Kiss of the Spider Woman when I was young and would love to see a film recapture that magic. The director and writer have both done successful musical films, so I think this one could really be good! Release Date: October 10th, 2025
I’m sure this isn’t everything that I’m looking forward to with the non-horror 2025 releases, but it comes close. What are some of the movies you’re looking forward to? Let me know in the comments below!
