Gastro Horror Coming to Streaming: May 2025

As a millennial, I’ve spent the last several days obligatorily singing “It’s gonna be MAYYY” anytime someone or something brings up May. That said, given my reign as the Gastro Horror queen, I figured I should start doing a monthly post about what gastro horror and gastro horror adjacent films are hitting VOD and/or streaming. So without further delay, here’s what’s coming to streaming in May 2025.

May 1stGastro Horror Coming to Streaming May 2025- The Mist

  • Hannibal After having successfully eluded the authorities for years, Hannibal peacefully lives in Italy in disguise as an art scholar. Trouble strikes again when he’s discovered leaving a deserving few dead in the process. He returns to America to make contact with now disgraced Agent Clarice Starling, who is suffering the wrath of a malicious FBI rival as well as the media. (Max)
  • The Mist– After a violent storm, a dense cloud of mist envelops a small Maine town, trapping David Drayton and his five-year-old son in a local grocery store with other local residents. They soon discover that the mist conceals deadly horrors that threaten their lives, and worse, their sanity. (Paramount+)
  • Silence of the Lambs– Clarice Starling is a top student at the FBI’s training academy. Jack Crawford wants Clarice to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a brilliant psychiatrist who is also a violent psychopath, serving life behind bars for various acts of murder and cannibalism. Crawford believes that Lecter may have insight into a case and that Starling, as an attractive young woman, may be just the bait to draw him out. (Max)
  • Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street The infamous story of Benjamin Barker, a.k.a Sweeney Todd, who sets up a barber shop down in London which is the basis for a sinister partnership with his fellow tenant, Mrs. Lovett. Based on the hit Broadway musical. (PlutoTV)
  • Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-RabbitCheese-loving eccentric Wallace and his cunning canine pal, Gromit, investigate a mystery in Nick Park’s animated adventure, in which the lovable inventor and his intrepid pup run a business ridding the town of garden pests. Using only humane methods that turn their home into a halfway house for evicted vermin, the pair stumble upon a mystery involving a voracious vegetarian monster that threatens to ruin the annual veggie-growing contest. (Netflix) Editor’s Note: Obviously, this one is more of a gateway gastro horror film, but I think it counts!

  • Cannibal Ferox Three friends embark on a trip through the Amazon jungle to disprove cannibalism, where they meet a pair of fugitive drug smugglers forcing a vicious cannibal tribe to harvest cocaine. (Shudder) Editor’s Note: Watch this at your own risk; there is a lot of triggering and/or problematic material in this film.
  • Cannibal Holocaust An anthropologist ventures into the Amazon rainforest on a rescue mission, where he recovers footage shot by a film crew documenting their disastrous encounters with local cannibal tribes. (Shudder) Editor’s Note: Watch this at your own risk; there is a lot of triggering and/or problematic material in this film.

  • Heart Eyes When the “Heart Eyes Killer” strikes Seattle, a pair of co-workers pulling overtime on Valentine’s Day are mistaken for a couple by the elusive couple-hunting killer. Now, they must spend the most romantic night of the year running for their lives. (Netflix) Editor’s Note: This is not a straight up gastro horror feature but there are enough gastro moments that it feels worthy of inclusion on this list.

May 30th

  • Cannibal FarmIn the British countryside, the Harver family head out on an idyllic summer camping trip where they can bury past tensions and enjoy some family bonding. But when their camp is sabotaged by an unseen intruder in the night, they head to the nearby creepy old farm desperate for help, where vengeful farmer Hunt Hansen and his hideously deformed son aren’t farming animals… Caged and waiting for their limbs to be severed, cooked and eaten one at a time, the Harver family must overcome their differences and unite in order to escape alive!
