Murder Mystery MAYhem Challenge: The Guidelines

urder Mystery MAYhem ChallengeWaiting for the 100 Horror Movies in 92 Days Challenge may seem daunting but after last year’s fairly successful quiet beta test, the Murder Mystery MAYhem Challenge is here to stay! I figured since it’s now going to be in it’s second year, we should get some guidelines together!

Similar to the #100HorrorMoviesIn92Days Challenge and the #HorrorMoviesForTheHolidays Challenge, the #MurderMysteryMAYhem Challenge will encourage participants to celebrate a different genre of film altogether, murder mysteries!

The Guidelines/Rules
  • The challenge runs from May 1st through May 31st.
  • There is no number goal past watching 1 murder mystery/whodunnit per day. (More is always welcome and encouraged)
  • Rewatches are totally fine and encouraged.
  • Films must be at least 45 minutes to count.
  • Films must be classified as mystery by either Letterboxd or IMDb.
  • While tv shows do not count for the challenge, made-for-TV movies or shows with movie-style episodes listed on Letterboxd like Sherlock, Poirot, etc will count.
  • This challenge isn’t a dictatorship, if a good case can be made for a film that doesn’t fall under the mystery category, it can be brought to the Discord Server and discussed among participants for a majority ruling.

Resources:

  • When posting on your social channels, use the hashtag #MurderMysteryMAYhem so participants can all follow along.
  • Use the list and tag function on Letterboxd to follow other participants and get movie recommendations.
    • Use the tag MurderMysteryMAYhem on both your movie reviews (if you put reviews on Letterboxd) and your list.
  • Join the group on our Discord server for encouragement, recommendations, and comradery. (We are active all year as well.)
  • Follow SpookySarahSays on BlueSky for recommendations, giveaways, screening opportunities, and more.

I hope these guidelines and resources help you get the most out of the Murder Mystery MAYhem Challenge! My DMs are always open for ideas, questions, and concerns! Feel free to hit me up if needed! See you all soon!
